There are screens between us. They separate and they connect us. If you would like to live with one of the objects or ideas you have discovered on this website, write to me. There is no gallery between us today, so everything here is arranged directly, person to person.
I am a living artist and if you are also alive then this is a real human opportunity to create something together. Ask. It’s free. I answer everything myself.
Work available now. (Even if you do not want to talk yet.) Drawings, photographs and ceramic objects that are ready to leave the studio are listed on an external site, aka the “shop”. It is called “Mostly Available Work”, because it is not really a shop. It is a place where I put items that are allowed to leave the studio now. → See what is currently available I ship worldwide. If you are in the EU outside Portugal and Germany, there are packaging and registration rules I would rather handle properly than ignore, so we arrange those together by email. It takes one message.
Patronage. A small number of people acquire the work over years rather than one piece at a time. Acquiring this way also means a more profound dialogue between the collector and the artist. A patronage, the way I understand it, is an acquisition, not a donation: the entire amount becomes work, chosen together, at prices fixed at the beginning. This is a more involved process, and so at any time I can only really collaborate with up to fourteen patrons in total. There is a private document that explains exactly how patronages are structured, and it is something I need to send personally. → Ask me for the patronage document
Commissions and durational works. Some objects and projects are made for a place. Some objects are buried, submerged or left in a landscape for years before they are shown again in a gallery or similar exhibition context. These are also arranged in conversation. → Write to me
You can see the bodies of work here, though almost all of it is easier to understand in the hand than on a screen. A studio visit in Lisbon can be arranged.
If you are early in this, that is a good place to be. Much of this is only possible because we are human and we are alive. And the more we think about it, the more meaningful it really gets.
A longer version of this page, on how collecting directly from an artist actually works, is being written.
