great photos! i am curious to know where the giant birds are.
Posted by: mark on April 25, 2005 12:45 PMthese are beautiful! hmm. i like 'fast' a lot. it was sliding off or you were sliding by?
Posted by: mare on April 25, 2005 06:27 PMthe giant birds are... hmm... in a giant hall about evolution...
: )
oh and the "fast" one was actually a static piece of art...
i moved the camera... is this what you mean?
: )
Huh. I too thought "fast" looked like a crocheted tablecloth (?) sliding off.
...and is that Jesus snapping the photo in "holy family"?
;)
Posted by: JS on April 26, 2005 03:22 PMYes, it is indeed a crocheted tablecloth that was suspended in the center of the gallery. I will have to go back to chelsea and find out the name of the gallery and the artist, I feel a bit strange posting the picture here and not referencing my (quite great) source.
The holy family picture is a bit particular. It is shot at the Louvre and it felt a bit as if the reflection we see here were almost a painting of a modern day holy family. You know, Mary, Joseph and when you just glance quickly... that kid boy reaching for something that is on the mother's shoulder. There is actually no child in the picture of course. There is no boy. The space between the couple just can look like a boy (see the pocket on his jeans? which is actually a box on the wall?)
There is also that reader... hmm... with a heavy book on her lap and a single sheet of paper over it... (It might feel far fetched, but how else could one illustrate that a new book is about to take shape here?) hmm...
And I am clearly taking the picture, so no Jesus...
Hmm... It is a very odd photograph, I think...
Now that I think about it... ALl of the images have something to do with something that is missing... in some way... some element just does not complete the circle...
incompleteness in a seemingly complete space?...
does this make sense?...
(watch me have a dialogue with myself here)
Missing numeral, missing limbs, missing child... "incompleteness" could be a common thread here.
Oh, and I'm quite relieved you're not giving yourself the Jesus role in "holy family". Now that I think about it, I can't recall a depiction of Jesus as an adult with Mary & Joseph. (Can that be true?)
Posted by: JS on April 26, 2005 04:24 PMPhew, glad I cleared the Jesus issue... : )
I think there are many paintings of Mary with the adult Jesus... and I think Joseph sometimes is there too... except that they are usually paintings of Jesus taken off the cross... hmm...
hey Witold,
nice photos. it's been a while. hope all is well.

Posted by: redd on April 26, 2005 07:14 PMyeah, i thought it was a tablecloth or doilie sliding from a piano or tabletop.
witold=silly. i had a laugh over your dialogue here. :)
also, all i can think of adult jesus/mary-wise is pieta. jesus removed from cross and in his mother's lap. hmm.
